Anne Layton-Bennett

Independent Australia

Independent Australia describes itself as ‘a progressive journal, supporting freedom and justice for individuals, and getting to the truth’. As an independent media outlet free of political bias it ‘opposes governments of the country beholden to vested interests’. While the editorial focus is on federal politics, democratic government, the environment, human rights, Australian identity, Indigenous issues, world affairs, economics, finance, health, law and the justice system – there is room for the occasional – and relevant – book review.

During 2023 IA also held it’s first competition, inviting its readership to submit poems, short fiction pieces and articles that related to current affairs. It ran for several months with monthly winners in each category and other entries selected for publication. Three of my poems were published and one was a monthly winner.
